Fire Chief - Town of Wise, Virginia

The Town of Wise, Virginia is seeking candidates for the position of Fire Chief (Pay Grade 12 ) with starting salary dependent upon skills and experience. The successful candidate would oversee a volunteer firefighting organization along with the fire hall, community bingo building, and training center. Duties would include administrative duties such as NIFRS reporting, grant application and administration, budgeting, purchasing, and capital project and equipment planning for the Fire Department. The Fire Chief would be responsible for volunteer recruitment, retention and training with regard to all aspects of firefighting and emergency response. The Wise Volunteer Fire Department responds to calls within the corporation limits of the Town of Wise as well as to calls within Wise County to include UVA Wise, subdivisions outside the corporation limits of Wise, and calls within mutual aid agreement response areas. Strong leadership and organizational skills are required along with a minimum of five years’ experience as a firefighter and first responder.
