Public Safety Cadet Unit VA0312
The Wise Police Department has incorporated a program which affords local youth the opportunity to explore their interest in law enforcement as a possible career choice. Sanctioned by the national non-profit organization, Public Safety Cadets. The program is designed for boys and girls ages 14 to 20, participants receive training in typical law enforcement activities such as vehicle stops, crime scene processing, firearms safety, etc. Even if participants choose not to pursue a career in law enforcement, the training helps develop leadership skills and an appreciation for the value of community service.
Once properly trained, these youth assist the department with parking, traffic, and crowd control at special events. They also participate in competitive events with other units and in recreational outings. Meetings are conducted Tuesdays at 6:00pm.
