Welcome to the Department of Planning and Zoning
The Department of Planning and Zoning is responsible for working with the Planning Commission, Town Council, businesses, and members of the community to effectively guide land use and future development decisions. It is important that these decisions are in line with the goals and objectives defined in the Town of Wise Comprehensive Plan and that they meet the standards set forth in the Town of Wise Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Regulations.
This department is also responsible for the following (more information found in the menu to the left):
- Transportation Planning
- Economic Development
- Community Development
- Floodplain Management
- Hazard Mitigation
- Downtown Revitalization Projects
- Community Engagement and Outreach
- Property Maintenance Complaints and Ordinance Violations
- GIS Support to Town of Wise Municipal Departments
This department oversees the Town of Wise Comprehensive Plan and the Zoning Ordinance/Subdivision Regulations. These two documents guide the growth of the Town. The Comprehensive Plan is the leading document that defines who we are and what our goals are for the future. The Zoning Ordinance sets the standard and is reflective of the goals in the Comprehensive Plan.
Citizen input is at the heart of these two guiding documents. This department welcomes any and all comments and encourages attendance at meetings of the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and Town Council.
