Food Trucks

Interested in setting up your food truck in the Town of Wise? Great! We'd love to have you! But first, there are a few things we need to take care of:

1. Download a copy of the Mobile Food Unit Permit located below this permit. Review the rules and regulations contained on the permit.

2. Contact the Zoning Administrator to go over the rules and regulations and to discuss your plans (276-328-6013 x204).

3. Contact the Treasurer's Office to see if you need a business license (276-328-6013 x101). New food trucks that have been in business less than two years and have a valid business license in another locality may be exempt. Regardless of the age of the business, all are required to remit meals tax to the Town of Wise. This is done on a monthly basis. The Treasurer's Office can provide you with the meals tax form or you can download a copy from the attachments below. **This tax should be added on to the transaction amount, so that it is paid by the customer and not out of your business' profits.**

4. Obtain property owner permission to submit with the Mobile Food Unit Permit. Food trucks can set up on commercially used private property. Food trucks can also set up on property owned by the Town of Wise with Wise Town Council permission, which must be obtained by making a request at a council meeting.

5. Submit the Mobile Food Unit Permit with required documentation to the Zoning Administrator. This can be done via email, fax, or in person.

6. The Zoning Administrator will review the application, and if all requirements are met, the application will be approved.

We understand that the nature of operating a food truck can be pretty hectic at times, so the earlier you can reach out to the Zoning Administrator with questions, the better! Once you have been through this process, it will get easier each time. Communication is key!
